Recipe Description

Ripe banana relish served as an accompaniment

Ingredients:-

  • Tamarind pulp – 4-5 tablespoons
  • Jaggery, grated – ½ cup
  • Water – 2 cups
  • Red chile, broken into (2) – 1no dried
  • Soonth (dry ginger powder) – ½ teaspoon
  • Red chile powder – ½ teaspoon
  • Cumin powder – ½ teaspoon
  • Saunf (fennel seeds) – 1 teaspoon
  • Table salt – ½ teaspoon
  • Green skinned ripe banana, peeled and cut into round slices – 1 large

 

Method:-

  1. Place a non stick deep pan on high heat.  Add in tamarind pulp, jaggery, water and bring to a boil, stirring continuously.
  2. Reduce heat to low, add chile, soonth, red chile powder, cumin powder, fennel seeds and salt and cook for 15-20 minutes.
  3. Add the banana slices. Cook for 4-5 minutes. Check for seasoning. Remove from stove top and cool and serve chilled.
