Recipe Description

A popular Bengali street food

Ingredients:-

  • Murmura (puffed rice) – 3 cups
  • Red onion, chopped  – 1 medium
  • Sprouted kala chana (sprouted black Bengal gram), boiled  – ¼ cup
  • Cucumber, peeled cut into ½ inch pieces – 1 small
  • Tomato, seeded, cut into ½ inch pieces – 1 small
  • Green chiles, chopped  – 2 no
  • Roasted peanuts, skinned – 2 tablespoons
  • Chopped fresh cilantro leaves – 2 tablespoons
  • Mustard oil, taken from a pickle – 2 tablespoons
  • Table salt – ¼ teaspoon
  • Jhaal muri masala – 2 tablespoons (See Chef’s tip)
  • Sliced fresh coconut, for garnish – 2 tablespoons

Method:-

  1. In large bowl combine puffed rice, onion, sprouted chana, cucumber, tomato, chiles, peanuts, cilantro leaves and toss to mix well.
  2. Add mustard oil, salt and jhaal muri masala and toss again to mix well. Serve immediately garnished with sliced coconut.

Chef’s tip:-

  • For jhaal muri masala mix together 1 teaspoon rock salt, 1 tablespoon roasted cumin power, 1 teaspoon chaat masala and ½ teaspoon of white pepper powder.
