Recipe Description

Quick and easy upma made with bread

 

Ingredients:-

  • Bread slices – 12
  • Ginger, peeled and finely chopped – 1 inch
  • Oil – 3 Tablespoons
  • Onions, chopped finely – 2 medium
  • Cumin seeds  – 1 teaspoon
  • Mustard seeds – 1 teaspoon
  • Urad dal white – 1 Tablespoon
  • Channa dal – 1 Tablespoon
  • Curry leaves – 10-12
  • Green chillies, deseeded and chopped – 2
  • Tomatoes – 2 medium
  • Potatoes, peeled and boiled – 2 medium
  • Green peas, frozen – ½ cup
  • Red chilli powder – ½ teaspoon
  • Turmeric powder – ½ teaspoon
  • Salt – to taste
  • Spring onion greens – 2-3
  • Lemon juice – 1 teaspoon

 

Method:-

  1. Toast bread lightly and cut into small one centimeter cubes.
  2. Heat oil in a non-stick wok.
  3. Add cumin seeds, mustard seeds, urad dal, channa dal and allow them to splutter.
  4. Add curry leaves and stir fry for a few seconds and add ginger, chopped onions and sauté till translucent.
  5. Add green chilies and sauté well.
  6. Chop tomatoes and potatoes into big pieces. Add potatoes to the pan and mix well. Add tomatoes and mix well.
  7. Add red chilli powder, turmeric powder and salt and mix well.  Add one fourth cup water and mix well and cook for a while.
  8. When tomatoes soften slightly, add bread and green peas, mix well.
  9. Reduce heat.  Chop spring onion greens and add and mix well.
  10. Add lemon juice and stir.
  11. Serve hot.
